Why are people, like Elon Musk, so keen on going to Mars?

Is it the spectacular sunsets and the red sand dunes, the peaceful silence and less people in your way, the fresh air…hang on, there’s no air there… right?!

Is there something they’re not telling us? 

Is Mars perhaps loaded with fossil fuels? Aliens and plants that long ago turned to oil and gas are now just waiting for us to drill and pump the shit up and bring it back to earth! Or is that red soil hiding tons of gold, rare minerals, diamonds…
